As a Northern Virginia maternity photographer, I’ve had the privilege of capturing some incredible moments for expectant mothers. But nothing was quite as special as the opportunity to document my own sister’s beautiful maternity session in Puerto Rico.
As a maternity photographer based in Herndon, VA, I photograph sessions throughout Nova and destination locations for families wanting a more personal experience. The weather in Puerto Rico was absolutely perfect for a maternity session. The temperature was warm but comfortable, with soft breezes that brought a sense of calm and serenity to the day.
As a baby photographer and maternity session expert, I always advise expecting mothers to prepare well for their maternity session to ensure a relaxed and enjoyable experience. First, it’s essential to choose outfits that make you feel confident and beautiful. Light, neutral tones and soft pastels always work great for a more modern, classic look.
Another key tip is to schedule your session during the ideal window. For most women, the best time to capture maternity photos is between 28 to 34 weeks when the bump is beautifully pronounced, but you’re still feeling comfortable and full of energy. It’s also important to stay hydrated, get plenty of rest, and take breaks if needed—especially if you’re planning a longer session.
Lastly, don’t forget to have fun and enjoy the moment. As a photographer, I love capturing real moments, and the best photos happen when you’re relaxed and present. My favorite part of this session was capturing my sister’s joy as we waited to welcome a baby girl !
